Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams's Bad Robot Productions has secured the rights to The Stops Along the Way, an unproduced screenplay by Rod Serling, creator of The Twilight Zone, which was his final completed work before his death in 1975. The project will be produced by Bad Robot and Warner Bros. TV and is set to be shopped around to interested networks as a limited series.

"I’m terribly, wonderfully excited that J.J. is interested and going to do it," Serling's widow Carol tells Variety. "It was one of my husband’s favorite pieces. He thought it had great potential." She went on to tease the plot for The Stops Along the Way, stating that it involves "a little bit of fantasy, a little bit of imagination” and that it “takes place over a long period of time."

Abrams is certainly keeping himself busy lately, both on the big screen and the small. In addition to directing Star Wars: Episode VII for Walt Disney Pictures, he's also producing the TV pilots Almost Human and Believe, as well as the second season of Revolution.
