Having been one of the major casualties of Brett Ratner's X-Men: The Last Stand, Patrick Stewart's Professor Charles Xavier is set to make his return to the X-Men franchise next year (or earlier, but that's another story) as Bryan Singer brings the casts of the original X-Men trilogy and 2011's X-Men: First Class together for a big screen adaptation of the classic comic book story arc X-Men: Days of Future Past. Speaking at Comicpalooza this past weekend, Stewart spoke briefly about his return to the X-Men universe.

"It’s been 6 or 7 years since X-Men 3, where you will recall that Charles Xavier was vaporized by whats-her-name, Jean Grey. And you’re asking yourselves, ‘If you were vaporized, how can you be in the next X-Men movie?’ Anybody got any ideas how that came about? [An audience member yells out 'Time Travel'] Yeah, that’s exactly it. I guess. There will be an explanation, but it was a little puzzling for me because I thought my X-Men days were over. So, it’s something to look forward to."

X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently filming in Montreal with a cast that also includes Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Ian McKellen (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde), Anna Paquin (Rogue), Shawn Ashmore (Iceman), Daniel Cudmore (Colossus), Omar Sy (Bishop), Evan Peters (Quicksilver) and Booboo Stewart (Warpath), while Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is set to portray the villain, thought to be Bolivar Trask. The film is scheduled for release on July 18th, 2014.
