2013 is undeniably shaping up to be a great year for Superman fans, with the Zack Snyder-directed reboot Man of Steel on the horizon and Scott Snyder's new comic book Superman Unchained due to arrive a few days before. This year is of course a special year for the Man of Steel himself as he celebrates his 75th anniversary, and Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment are keen to capitalise on this and the Christopher Nolan-produced film's profile, as they have today launched a new 75th Anniversary logo, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter.
Along with the logo, they have also announced that Zack Snyder will be producing a new animated short, the full details of which are yet announced. He will be joined - in what sources say Snyder envisions as a one continuous shot homage to the characters heritage - by Bruce Timm, Jay Oliva, Mike Carling, Peter Girardi and Geoff Johns. All of this is part of a year long campaign to re-ignite the fire that has carried Superman through seven and a half decades and, unquestionably, seen him become the most iconic comic book character and one of pop culture's most significant figures.
Newly appointed Warner CEO Kevin Tsujihara issued a statement: “Warner Bros. is privileged to be home to the global Superman brand, which has had an unparalleled impact on popular culture for 75 years. We are proud to commemorate this milestone with exciting entertainment across the entire studio and across the globe, ensuring this enduring icon reaches new generations of audiences."
The new logo follows the recently released Superman: Unbound animated feature and later this year the character will also be seen in an online multiplayer game, Infinite Crisis, along with new animated shorts to air on Cartoon Network.
Following on from Star Trek month, June will be Superman month here on Flickering Myth, so be to keep an eye on the site for daily features exploring the history of the Man of Steel.
