UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 24th - Sunday 27th May 2013...

Despite the fact that the franchise hasn't generated so much as a snigger since 2009, UK audiences are still flocking to see the latest misadventures of The Wolfpack, with Todd Phillips' The Hangover Part III pulling in an opening weekend of £5,964,619 (including Thursday previews) to take first place at the box office, knocking last week's champion Fast & Furious 6 down into second. While it's certainly a decent enough haul, it's a far cry from its predecessor, with The Hangover Part II amassing a hefty £10.4 million back in June 2011. Still, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. will surely be celebrating, given the atrocious reviews for the latest - and hopefully last - instalment in the comedy series.
Elsewhere in the chart and the 3D animated fantasy adventure Epic grossed £3,190,574, which must be considered a bit of a disappointment considering the fact that the total includes an additional four days of preview screenings, while The Moth Diaries was the only other newcomer to crack the top ten, banking £103,228 to finish up in seventh. Meanwhile, with the top five films sucking the life out of most of the chart, Sam Raimi's Oz the Great and Powerful was able to sneak back into the top ten in its eleventh week of release.
