After yesterday's explosive series 7 finale of Doctor Who, the BBC has wasted little time in announcing that Matt Smith's Time Lord will return for an eighth series, with showrunner and executive producer Steven Moffat returning for a new batch of adventures in space and time.
However, before series 8 of the long-running show, the BBC will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the British sci-fi institution with a 50th Anniversary 3D Special, which will air on BBC One in November, as well as receiving a special theatrical release coinciding with its television broadcast.
The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special sees Matt Smith and Jenna Louise Coleman returning alongside David Tennant, Billie Piper and Jemma Redgrave, while John Hurt will also star, having popped up at the climax of 'The Name of the Doctor'. To whet our appetites, the BBC has released a behind-the-scenes video featuring Matt Smith and David Tennant, and you can check it out right here:
The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special is to be broadcast on November 23rd.
