Since the trailers first started to land for The Avengers TV spin-off Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, speculation started to grow that J. August Richards was to be playing Luke Cage in the show after displaying a lot of the same powers as well as physical attributes. However the show's Executive Producer Jeffrey Bell has laid rest to those rumours in an interview with IGN.

When asked about Richards, Bell said, "he’s so good. He’s so good, because we were looking for this character M-- I almost said his name. It’s not the one people are talking about."

IGN do note in the interview that the "M" sound Bell made could be more of a "hmmm" as in he wasn't sure whether he could say or not.

He goes on to say that he is playing "an interesting Marvel character" and that may not be familiar to regular Marvel readers, "I mean, we’re going to draw from it, but Marvel has its thing, and we’re also going to be expanding forward, and this world is different since The Avengers. So I think there will be people showing up, some from the Marvel Universe and some not. But to commit to anything more would be telling."

Bell also wasn't spilling on any details about the return of Phil Coulson, "Coulson is back, and that’s all I can say."

Guess we'll have wait until the premiere this Fall.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D features Clark Gregg (The Avengers) as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen (Stargate Universe) as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton (Killing Lincoln) as Agent Grant Ward, Iain De Caestecker (Coronation Street) as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge (The Thompsons) as Agent Gemma Simmons and Chloe Bennet (Nashville) as Skye.
