Back in August of last year we heard that John Travolta was being eyed for a role in director Steve Pink's (Hot Tub Time Machine) upcoming remake of Troma's 1984 cult comedy-horror The Toxic Avenger, and while things have fallen silent since then, we now have another big name (literally and figuratively) to throw into the mix, with Variety reporting that Arnold Schwarzenegger is being lined up to star in the reboot.
According to The Wrap, Arnie won't play Toxie himself, but rather "The Exterminator", a character described as "a former black ops agent who trains the protagonist to use his powers for good. Together they take on the lurking menace created by the polluters, as well as the polluters themselves."
Since embarking on his movie comeback, Schwarzenegger has appeared in the action ensemble The Expendables 2, while his first major star vehicle The Last Stand struggled to recapture his former box office glory days when it arrived in cinemas earlier this year. The action icon has several other projects on his slate, with both Escape Plan (formerly The Tomb) and Ten both completed, while he's also attached to the sequels Triplets and The Legend of Conan.
