Film4, Picturehouse Entertainment and 4DVD have announced that British filmmaker Ben Wheatley's (Down Terrace, Kill List, Sightseers) upcoming Civil War horror A Field in England will receive a multi-platform release this July, where it will become the first ever film to hit UK cinemas, DVD, free TV (Film4) and Video-on-Demand on the same day.
The film, which is the first to be developed and financed through Film4's Film4.0, is set during the English Civil War and centres on a small group of deserters feeling from a battle. Descending on a vast mushroom circle, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia as they fall victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field.
"It's great to team up with Film4 to make this film and to work with new partners such as Picturehouse and 4DVD," said Wheatley as part of the official release announcement. "We have tried to innovate with this film, in production and distribution. I'm very proud of the results and look forward to sharing the film with the audience."
A Field in England stars Michael Smiley (Kill List), Peter Ferdinando (Tony), Reece Shearsmith (The League of Gentlemen), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Richard Glover (Sightseers) and Ryan Pope (Ideal) and will be released on July 5th.
