It seems unlikely that Daniel Radcliffe will ever escape the shadow of the Harry Potter franchise. For many movie-goers he will always be the boy wizard. However, the actor is doing a decent job of keeping busy and certainly isn't giving up on work, as many of us probably would in his position.

After being a successful focal point for the cinematic version of The Woman in Black and throwing himself into a number of stage roles, Radcliffe is continuing to diversify. According to Empire, he's now set to play the lead in Tokyo Vice, a thriller based on the memoirs of journalist Jake Adelstein. Radcliffe will play the idealistic American hack, working the crime desk at a Tokyo newspaper and delving into the dealings of one of the city's biggest gangsters, despite the personal risks.

Tokyo is known for its Yakuza gang culture and the city could provide Radcliffe's acting talents with an extremely different backdrop. The story sounds like it has plenty of emotional meat, and would add yet another string to Radcliffe's bow.

This project is being developed by Anthony Mandler, a music video director. Radcliffe is also set to work with Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) soon on a new adaptation of Frankenstein, which will have to compete with the popularity of Danny Boyle's (Trance) recent stage version, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Johnny Lee Miller (Elementary).
