It would appear that not only humans become zombies in a project devised by Joshua Ortega (Gears of War, Star Wars Tales), Digger T. Mesch (Agent 88, Founder of Art Asylum), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles creator Kevin Eastman titled The Other Dead.
When every tier of the animal kingdom, from cats, dogs, and mice to lions, tigers, and bears, are transformed into super-strong, turbo-fast, bloodthirsty zombies, how will mankind survive? When a vicious attack can come at any moment from a fluffy tabby, a sleepy hound dog, or a ten-point buck, how can you stay safe?
"This undead animal collective is a perfect storm,” said Digger. “It’s a chance to work with close friends who also happen to be creative giants on something that's going to be huge no brainer." Struggling with the zombie outbreak is a demon-obsessed death metal band, a paranoid survivalist and the President of the United States. "I'm incredibly honoured to be working with such an amazing and talented team on a book with such a fun and unique premise, said Ortega. “I mean, who wouldn't want to work with the legendary Kevin Eastman on a story about zombie animals!? It's an incredibly awesome and over-the-top opportunity, and we're all having a blast with it. Readers are in for one unforgettable ride, I can promise you that!" Eastman is equally enthusiastic. "The Other Dead has not only a savagely compelling story, but also stunningly gorgeous artwork by the amazing Qing Ping Mui with colours by Blond! We're all incredibly excited to get this book out there to readers and fans everywhere!"
The Other Dead goes on sale September 2013.
Receiving the deluxe hardcover format treatment is The Red Star which began with The Battle of Kar Dathras Gate in 1999. “IDW has raised the industry standard with its deluxe line, and The Red Star is known for its world-class production value, so this is a match made in heaven,” said Christian Gossett the originator of the acclaimed Soviet inspired series. “I’m proud that our long-time readership will at last be offered the lavish version they deserve, and to give new readers their best opportunity yet to discover this unique and ongoing saga."
Bringing Locke & Key: Omega series to a conclusion is the finale titled Locke & Key: Alpha which will be a two 48 page issues. “We hadn’t wanted to reveal the direction this finale was going to take until now in order to maintain necessary secrecy over how Locke & Key wraps up,” said series editor and IDW’s Chief Creative Officer/Editor-in-Chief Chris Ryall. “But after Omega, there can only be Alpha. And the series will end much the way it began, in the form of an extra-length issue, two in this case. It is hard to fit this much death and destruction into just a regular-sized issue.” Ryall added, “It’s been an incredible rewarding six years of Locke & Key, and we’ve loved seeing Locke & Key build a larger and more rabid audience with each volume of the series. Add to that the fans who’ve liked the series enough to tattoo it on their bodies, the actual keys built by Israel Skelton’s Skelton Crew Studios, the Fox pilot, the Eisner Awards and everything else we’ve experienced, and it’s been one of the more rewarding series IDW has ever published. And now it’s time to close this storyline in a way that will be as equally memorable as everything we’ve seen over nearly 40 issues from Joe Hill, Gabriel Rodriguez and colourist Jay Fotos.”
Locke & Key: Alpha arrives in August 2013.
