Before he returns to the world of the Autobots and Decepticons for Transformers 4, Michael Bay is set to take a break from big budget blockbusters with Pain and Gain – a passion project of the director’s described as a “Coen brothers-esque” dark crime comedy – which has just received its first teaser poster, along with an official release date of April 2013.
Pain and Gain centres on two bodybuilders, portrayed by Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, Ted) and Dwayne Johnson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), who try to make a fast buck through kidnapping and extortion, only to find themselves in way over their heads. The script has been written by Captain America: The First Avenger scribes Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and sees Wahlberg and Johnson joined in the cast by Ed Harris (Man on a Ledge), Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker), Tony Shalhoub (Monk), Ken Jeong (The Hangover), Rob Corddry (Hot Tub Time Machine), and Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids).
