First trailer for Neill Blomkamp's Elysium

South African filmmaker Neill Blomkamp made quite a splash with his critically acclaimed 2009 debut District 9, so naturally there's been a tonne of anticipation for his follow-up movie, the mysterious sci-fi Elysium, which stars Matt Damon (Contagion), Jodie Foster (Carnage), Sharlto Copley (District 9), Wagner Moura (Elite Squad), Alice Braga (The Rite) and Diego Luna (Contraband). Now we have out first look at the film, with Sony dropping the first poster and the official theatrical trailer; check it out after the synopsis...

"In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government official will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds."


Elysium is set for release on August 9th in North America and September 20th in the UK.
