Guillermo del Toro might have plenty on his plate at the moment as he prepares to unleash the giant robots vs. giant monsters beat 'em up Pacific Rim this summer, but with a multitude of other projects on the horizon -including his planned Justice League Dark adaptation Heaven Sent and the already-announced Pacific Rim 2 - it seems he's wasting little time in prepping his next feature, the haunted house thriller Crimson Peak.
According to Variety, British actor Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness) has entered negotiations to join the cast of the Victorian ghost tale, where he would join the already confirmed Emma Stone (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and del Toro's Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy). The film will be set at the turn of the century and has been described by del Toro as "a ghost story and gothic romance" that begins as a love story before taking a much darker turn.
Cumberbatch has been very busy lately, and is showing no signs of slowing down; as well as portraying the mysterious John Harrison in May's Star Trek Into Darkness, he will lend his voice to the fearsome dragon Smaug in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again, as well as reuniting with Martin Freeman for a third series of the BBC's Sherlock. His other upcoming films include August: Osage County, Twelve Years a Slave, and The Fifth Estate, where he will play WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
