One of the favourite stories created by Jeff Smith will be part of a new venture between IDW Publishing and Cartoon Books; The Great Cow Race which features Fone, Smiley and Phoney bone, Gran’ma Ben, Thorn, and Rat Creatures will be included in Jeff Smith’s Bone Artist’s Edition.
“The Artists Editions are one of the coolest things to happen to comics in a long time,” said Bone’s creator Jeff Smith who launched Cartoon Books in 1991 with Vijaya Iyer resulting in the release of the first issue of his series which has since won 10 Eisner Awards. “I can’t wait to be a part of it! Does this mean I get a comp copy of the Wally Wood book?”
Jeff Smith’s Bone Artist’s Edition will contain 144 pages and will be printed in the same size as the original black & white art which is scanned in colour to highlight paste-overs, blue pencil sketch marks, editorial notes, and art corrections. Previous Artist’s Editions include Dave Stevens’ The Rocketeer, Walter Simonson’s The Mighty Thor, John Romita’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and Wally Wood’s EC Stories, while upcoming releases include The Best of E.C. Comics, John Byrne’s Fantastic Four, and Mark Schultz’s Xenozoic Tales.
