Legendary Pictures posted via their Godzilla (2014) Facebook page a photo of kaiju-eiga legend Akira Takarada on set with Gareth Edwards to tease a possible cameo in the upcoming Godzilla reboot.
Takarada has featured in a total of six kaiju movies including the original Gojira in 1954. He went on to star in Mothra vs. Godzilla, Invasion of Astro-Monster, Godzilla & Mothra: Battle For Earth and Godzilla: Final Wars as well as Ishiro Honda's King Kong Escapes.
Takarada has become an icon to kaiju-eiga fans so this new will no doubt delight the fan base.
Filming on Godzilla began last week in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The production lasted less than 24 hours before the first images started surfacing online. Director Gareth Edwards has said that this Godzilla reboot will take the King of the Monsters back to his dark routes.
Godzilla will also star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass 2), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Elizabeth Olson (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), Ken Wantabe (Inception) and David Strathairn (Lincoln). It will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters) and has been written by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) to be released on May 16th 2014
