Vertigo Films has announced that principal photography has got underway on Monsters: Dark Continent, the sequel to writer-director Gareth Edwards' low-budget 2010 feature debut Monsters.
Edwards - who is currently shooting another giant monster move in the form of Legendary Pictures Godzilla reboot - is set to serve as executive producer on Dark Continent, with Misfits helmer Tom Green directing a cast that includes Johnny Harris (Welcome to the Punch), Sam Keeley (What Richard Did) and Joe Dempsie (Game of Thrones).
According to Screen Daily, Monsters: Dark Continent will be set "some years after Edwards' cult hit original... [where] Infected Zones have spread across the world. While the US military try to wipe out the monsters, they soon realize they face resistance from a number of corners." Filming on Monsters: Dark Continent will run for five weeks in Jordan before heading to Detroit for a final week of filming. A release date is yet to be announced.
