Star Trek Into DarknessCoinciding with the 46th anniversary of Gene Roddenberry’s Star Trek: The Original Series comes word that we can finally stop addressing J.J. Abrams’ follow-up to his 2009 feature film reboot as the ‘Untitled Star Trek Sequel’, with Coming Soon reporting that the film has been given the moniker Star Trek Into Darkness, stemming from the discovery that Paramount Pictures has registered the domain names www.startrekintodarkness.com and www.startrekintodarknessmovie.com yesterday via an anonymous domain registry service.

Following Coming Soon’s report, fan site TrekMovie.com posted an update to say they have “confirmed with multiple sources that Star Trek Into Darkness has been selected as the title for the Star Trek movie,” and that “the title does not include a colon, like was used for the Next Generation films such as Star Trek: First Contact or Star Trek: Nemesis.”

The new film sees the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, John Cho and Anton Yelchin as the crew of the USS Enterprise, alongside Bruce Greenwood as Captain Pike and franchise newcomers Alice Eve (Men in Black 3), Peter Weller (RoboCop), Nazneen Contractor (24), Noel Clarke (Doctor Who) and Nolan North (Young Justice). Meanwhile Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) will portray the film’s villain, whose identity is yet to be officially confirmed (barring a potential slip of the tongue from Karl Urban).

Star Trek Into Darkness (assuming that is the title) is scheduled for release on May 17th, 2013.
