Almost half a century after it become a pop culture phenomenon, the classic TV series Batman is making of comeback of sorts this year. At the New York Toy Fair 2013, a line of action figures bearing the likeness of Adam West, Burt Ward and company were unveiled, and now it's been announced that DC Comics is to release a new digital-first comic book series entitled Batman '66.Here are a selection of first-look promotional images from Batman '66, courtesy of Newsarama...
Batman '66 will be written by Jeff Parker with rotating artists, beginning with Jonathan Case, while Mike Allred will supply the covers. The series will begin with digital released this summer, before being collected in print. It's said that the first villain to go up against the Dynamic Duo will be none other than the Riddler, echoing the first two-part episode of the TV series, 'Hi Diddle Riddle' / 'Smack in the Middle', which saw Frank Gorshin nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of the Prince of Puzzles.
"The juxtaposition of offering a retro BATMAN ’66 comic as a current and modern digital first title is fun,” said DC Entertainment President, Diane Nelson. “DC Entertainment is the most prolific producer of digital first comics and, as we work to create new and compelling content, this is a great way to also preserve the legacy of our characters. It’s exciting to roll out the new BATMAN ’66 comic as part of this bigger initiative with our Warner Bros Consumer Product partners."
