Godzilla legend Akira Takarda, who has featured in six previous kaiju movies, has made more public requests to Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures for him to star in their 2014 Godzilla reboot.

He's talked about in several interviews (including the 2010 G-Fest, the video of which can be seen here) and there is now a Facebook group supporting the actor's wish.

Takarda starred in the original Godzilla (1954), Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964), Invasion of Astro-Monster (1965), Godzilla and Mothra: Battle For Earth (1992) and Godzilla: Final Wars (2004) as well as the Ishiro Honda directed King Kong Escapes (1967), which was not a sequel to King Kong vs. Godzilla (1963), but a spin-off to the Toho produced cartoon King Kong (1966).

In other Godzilla news, Canada.com has revealed that production of the movie has found a home in Nanaimo, British Columbia. The website says that, "Gareth Edward's sci-fi reboot of the city-destroying Godzilla is being filmed across Vancouver Island this March, from Nanaimo's Old Victoria Road to Ladysmith and Shawnigan Lake. More than 300 crew members are expected to land in the Harbour City for the eight-day central Island shoot and have pledged to use local extras, staff and equipment."

They continue, "The film, whose working title is Nautilus, did a casting call in February for extras and recently notified residents along Old Victoria Road that filming is about to begin. Joan Miller, the North Island film commissioner, says Vancouver Island will make up the first shots for the new take on the legendary radioactive monster, which is set to hit theatres next year. Crews will stay in Nanaimo hotels for three days while they shoot the scenes downtown and Ladysmith area before they move onto Shawnigan Lake."

Godzilla is set to star Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass 2), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad), Elizabeth Olson (Martha Marcy May Marlene), Juliette Binoche (The English Patient) and David Strathairn (Lincoln). It will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Monsters) and has been written by Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) to be released on May 16th 2014.
