Series three of the BBC's Sherlock began shooting in Cardiff this morning, and the co-writer/sometimes-actor of the show, Mark Gatiss, tweeted the below...
The title recalls the Sherlock Holmes story The Adventure of the Empty House - the tale written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to bring the detective back to life after public pressure. Quite apt then, considering the cliff-hanger we were left with at the end of series two.
Benedict Cumberbatch (Star Trek Into Darkness, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Martin Freeman (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) will reprise their roles as Holmes and Dr. John Watson, but only for shooting the first two episodes of the series. They will then take a break for "other professional commitments" (sounds shady) to reunite for production of the third episode in late Summer.
Series three of Sherlock is expected to screen early next year.
Sherlock is written and created by Steven Moffat (Doctor Who, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn) and Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen).
