The idea of a sequel to Tim Burton's 1988 breakthrough hit Beetlejuice has been floating around Hollywood for nigh on quarter of a century now, with the ultimately aborted Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian passing through the hands of writers such as Jonathan Gems (Mars Attacks!), Daniel Waters (Batman Returns) and Pamela Norris (Troop Beverly Hills) during the 90s before eventually falling by the wayside.
However, in 2011 it was announced that author and screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows) had signed on to writer and produce a proposed follow-up, and now Graheme-Smith has teased the fact that work on the script is now underway, posting an image to Twitter featuring (the lower half of) Beetlejuice standing in front of a Apple computer:
It's thought that Burton is open to returning to the director's chair for Beetlejuice 2, should the script prove up to scratch, while Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Geena Davis are all said to be keen to reprise their roles. If the film does go ahead under Burton, you'd have to imagine he'd shoehorn Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter in there somewhere too...
