The latest issue of Total Film is set to explore the 100 greatest screen heroes and villains, so it's quite fitting that the front cover features up a shot of the most iconic superhero of all, with Henry Cavill's Superman joined by Amy Adams' Lois Lane in a brand new image from Zack Snyder's hotly-anticipated reboot Man of Steel.
"This is a Superman for a modern age. It's not betraying anything that Superman is, but it is grounding everything in reality," said Cavill in an interview in the issue (via HenryCavill.org). "It's the story of this incredible being who can do incredible things, but whom we can associate with. Because he's gone through troubling stuff and had to make tough choices."
Cavill also went on to explain how he drew inspiration for his take for the Man of Steel, drawing upon the previous screen incarnations, as well as Superman's rich comic book history: "I managed to piece together this character, maintaining that bass-line and having all the differences and nuances that our script adds. This is our own thing. Stand-alone. It's about Superman, but we're not copying from any one comic in particular. And that's a good thing, because it's an original story."
Man of Steel is set for release on June 14th, with a cast that also includes Russell Crowe (Les Miserables) as Jor-El, Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire) as General Zod, Kevin Costner (Hatfields & McCoys) as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane (Secretariat) as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne (Contagion) as Perry White, Ayelet Zurer (Angels & Demons) as Lara Lor-Van and Antje Traue (Pandorum) as Faora.
