After sinking to new depths with 2010's The Last Airbender, filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan is hoping to get his career back on track by teaming up with the father-and-son team of Will and Jaden Smith for the $130 million sci-fi thriller After Earth, which has just received a new theatrical trailer today. A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
Joining the two Smiths in the cast for After Earth are Isabelle Fuhrman (The Hunger Games), Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones), Gabriel Caste (Frozen Lies) and Zoe Kravitz (X-Men: First Class).
