The Avengers deleted scene sees Captain America as a man out of time

If there was one complaint that Captain America fans could have had about Marvel’s The Avengers, it’s that – outside of a few comedy moments – there really wasn’t much time devoted to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) learning to adjust to his new life as a ‘man out of time’.

It is of course understandable, given that director Joss Whedon had to juggle a roster of characters that included Cap, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), but a newly-released deleted scene has given us a taste of what could have been, had Whedon allowed the film’s running time to stretch beyond its already meaty two-hours twenty minutes.

Taking place immediately prior to Cap’s introductory scene with Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), the deleted scene sees Steve looking through S.H.I.E.L.D. records of his deceased World War II buddies, along with that of a retired - and surely ancient by now - Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), before heading out for a cuppa, chatting with a waitress, and receiving a few choice words of advice from the legendary Stan Lee.

The Avengers is released on September 17th in the UK and September 25th in North America. Be sure to check out an alternate opening feature Cobie Smulders’ Agent Maria Hill, which you can see here.
