Michael K. Williams (The Wire) is currently in talks to join the cast of the new RoboCop. Williams will play Alex Murphy's partner on the police force who is apparently "close with Murphy's family." This will be different than the partner character in the original RoboCop, Anne Lewis, who was portrayed by Nancy Allen.
If Williams does sign on he will be joining an already stellar cast that includes Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) in the lead role as well as Hugh Laurie (House), Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Jay Baruchel (Goon), Abbie Cornish (Sucker Punch) and Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen). The movie is being directed by Jose Padhila (Elite Squad).
Williams is currently on HBO's Boardwalk Empire where he plays Chalky White. He's proved on that show and on HBO's The Wire that he is a really good actor and adding him to the cast will surely only better serve the movie. RoboCop hits theaters August 9, 2013.
