We’ve already seen a poster, and now The CW has released the first two images from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas’ upcoming DC / Vertigo adaptation iZombie, which sees Rose McIver (Once Upon a Time) starring as Olivia ‘Liv’ Moore as a promising med-student who find herself turned into a zombie. Take a look here, and check out a new (and lengthy) synopsis below…

iZombie (1)

iZombie

Olivia “Liv” Moore was a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out…until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy. As one of the newly undead, Liv is doing her best to blend in and look as human as possible. Her appearance now passes for “Goth,” with shockingly pale skin and nearly white hair, and her demeanor has gone from exuberant to exhausted. The change in Liv is baffling to her mother, her former fiancé, Major, and her best friend and roommate, Peyton, who still has the high-energy, Type-A personality that Liv has completely abandoned. Despite her post-traumatic ennui, Liv has devised a way to resist her baser urges to devour fresh human brains – she’s taken a job in the Seattle coroner’s office. In this appropriately dead-end job, Liv can secretly snack on the brains of the many Jane and John Doe corpses that make a final stop in the morgue. Despite carefully covering her tracks, Liv’s boss, Dr. Ravi Chakrabarti, discovers her secret and is surprisingly excited about the scientific possibilities. Even with her boss’ enthusiasm, Liv remains resigned to an eternity without hope or purpose, until she realizes that with every brain she consumes, she retains a portion of that person’s memories. Liv begins to experience visions from the point of view of the murder victims. Much to the surprise of Dr. Ravi and homicide detective Clive Babineaux, Liv often has detailed knowledge of crime scenes and motives that she can’t easily explain. Posing as a psychic, she works with Detective Babineaux to investigate these crimes and discover who is responsible. It’s not the same as being alive again, but at least Liv can find purpose in her undead existence by helping Clive solve the murders of those who are indeed fully dead.

Also featuring in the cast of iZombie are Malcolm Goodwin (American Gangster), Alexandra Krosney (Last Man Standing), David Anders (Alias), Robert Buckley (One Tree Hill) and Nora Dunn (Pineapple Express).

Lily James as Cinderella

Walt Disney Pictures has released the first poster and trailer for next year’s live-action fairy tale Cinderella, which sees Kenneth Branagh (Thor) directing a cast that includes with a cast that includes Lily James (Downton Abbey), Hayley Atwell (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Helena Bonham Carter (Les Misérables), Stellan Skarsgård (Thor: The Dark World), Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), Holliday Grainger (The Borgias), Sophie McShera (Downton Abbey), Derek Jacobi (Grace of Monaco), and Ben Chaplin (World Without End). Check them out right here….

Cinderella teaser poster

The story of Cinderella follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family. Finally relegated to nothing more than a servant girl covered in ashes, and spitefully renamed Cinderella, Ella could easily begin to lose hope. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.” She will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her. And then there is the dashing stranger she meets in the woods. Unaware that he is really a prince, not merely an apprentice at the Palace, Ella finally feels she has met a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the Palace sends out an open invitation for all maidens to attend a ball, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit (Richard Madden). Alas, her stepmother forbids her to attend and callously rips apart her dress. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand, and a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham-Carter) steps forward and – armed with a pumpkin and a few mice – changes Cinderella’s life forever.

Cinderella is due for release on March 13th 2015.

Hugh Jackman assumes Wolverine will be rebooted when he hangs up the claws

xmen-15With Hugh Jackman looking set to extend his run as Logan to nine films with X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse and the third Wolverine movie, the actor has suggested recently that he’s finally starting to consider hanging up the claws and calling time on his signature role. Speaking to Collider, Jackman remained coy about his plans, but seemed to indicate that he’s open to sticking around a little while longer…

“It’d be great to leave people wanting more, rather than the other way around.  It’d also be great to make the decision rather than getting that phone call, ‘Now listen Hugh, I know you thought you were going to [keep going], and thank you so much for all you’ve done, but…’  I think it would be much better to be making that decision together… For me there has to be something new and some new direction, I suppose, for the character to go; not only for me, but for the audiences.  And I feel that that’s been happening. Right now I don’t [want to let it go], and as long as it keeps going this direction I probably won’t (smiles).  But I’ve made that promise to you, it’s not something I will stick around at and stay at if I feel it’s dropping off or if I don’t feel that urge to go and do it, because I know there’s 10 million actors out there who would kill themselves to play the part.  They should, it’s a great part.”

And as for when he does decide to finally call it a day, Jackman went on to state that he assumes Fox will reboot the character, rather than going down the Bond route of replacing him with another actor: “I just presume, in a way, that if it happens they will reboot.  I don’t know why I thought that.  I think you could replace him because he’s older, but it would be interesting—because I was 30 when I got the role, it’d be interesting to follow that character from 20, or even 18, because we haven’t seen it.  So that’s just what I assumed it would be.”

Jackman will next be seen as Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which opens on May 22nd in the UK and May 23rd in North America. Read our review here.

GAMORA (Zoe Saldana)
Gamora is an orphan from an alien world who was raised by the mysterious Thanos to become the perfect weapon. As Thanos’ personal assassin, Gamora has earned a reputation as a formidable warrior. Gamora now seeks redemption for her past crimes.

GROOT (Vin Diesel)
Groot descends from a race of walking flora and resembles a sentient tree. Despite his strange appearance and limited communication skills, Groot proves to be a valuable ally and a loyal friend—not only to his fellow bounty hunter Rocket but to the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy as well.

ROCKET (Bradley Cooper)
Rocket is a bounty hunter and mercenary whose mastery of weapons and battle tactics make him a formidable warrior, despite being a genetically altered, cybernetically enhanced, talking raccoon. The result of traumatic biological experimentation, Rocket is a genuine gun-toting badass and mechanical genius who has a huge chip on his shoulder.

RONAN (Lee Pace)
A Kree radical, Ronan continues to fight an ancient war between his people and the Xandarians. Ronan has struck a bargain with the Machiavellian Thanos — retrieve a mysterious artifact, and in exchange Xandar will finally be eradicated. Ronan leads his army to hunt down Peter Quill and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy when they come between him and his genocidal goal.

YONDU (Michael Rooker)

Korath, a powerful ally of the villainous Ronan, is a feared intergalactic hunter. Korath is a pursuer who is dedicated to the kill and focuses only on one thing—his target.

RHOMANN DEY (John C. Reilly)

THE COLLECTOR (Benicio Del Toro)
Taneleer Tivan, aka The Collector, is the obsessive keeper of the largest collection of interstellar fauna, relics and species in the galaxy. An enigmatic figure, The Collector operates out of a place in space aptly named Knowhere. When he encounters Peter Quill and his band, The Collector attempts to strike a dubious bargain.

SYNOPSIS:

A man seeks out his exact look-alike after spotting him in a movie.

enemy-movie-2014

I watched Enemy and was simply blown away by every part of it. It hit me harder than any film has hit me for the longest time and I could not get it out of my mind for days after, knowing I absolutely had to watch it again before I even dare share my thoughts. On a first watch it was scary, unnerving, disturbing, and utterly compelling, with a final shot which saw me audibly yell out.

A few weeks later, I was ready to watch the film again, prepared to write a review which I hoped would see my thought appear just as positive the second time around. On a rewatch Enemy is every bit as scary, unnerving, disturbing, a utterly compelling. It is a film of extreme cinematic brilliance, the likes of which we so seldom see and one which I cannot compare to anything I’ve seen. I am enthralled with the film and have no hesitations regarding it as modern masterpiece; a term I rarely use for modern pictures.

How does one write a review of Enemy and hope to do it any justice whilst leaving it spoiler and analysis free? I could write an essay on how the film creates an atmosphere, provides clues to its true meaning, and what is might be about, but this isn’t the place for that. I want you to watch it and experience for yourselves without any insight from me as to what you’ll see. And then I want you to see it again and piece together the clues to answer some of those “what the hell?” question you’ll undoubtedly have.

Yet despite a yearning to fully ‘understand’ the film, I also greatly appreciate that fact that I don’t have all the answers and this makes the film even more appealing. I know it’s about X who does Y and the results are Z (not giving you anything here, remember) but to over-analyze can be to take the mystery and awe out of it, and I never want that to happen. I’m happy with my understanding and reading of the film and its effect on me. This is marks the second film pairing between actor Jake Gyllenhaal and director Denis Villeneuve after the good but rather flawed Prisoners; Enemy has none of that film’s misguided final act resolutions but instead has an ending which will leave you speechless (unless you shout out loud like I did). What both Villeneuve films show, however, is a film maker with an exquisite eye for detail, a great sense of how to create atmosphere, and shot compositions which serve the story rather than titillate the audience. Every shot in Enemy appears to have purpose and meaning, and every shot works; there is nothing I would take out of this film or call ‘filler’. How often can you say this?

My reviews aren’t usually this short and I hope you’ll forgive me on this occasion, but this isn’t really a review; it’s a call to action. You must see Enemy if you love movies. You owe it to yourself to track down a cinema showing it, a download, or pre-order it online if the opportunity passes you by. I’ve seen it twice and have no doubt I’ll watch it again before the year is through because it really is that good. Trust me when I say a 2014 release which will stick in your mind as long as Enemy does is as likely as seeing meeting your exact double.

But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand — with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.”

Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release on July 31st in the UK and August 1st in North America, with James Gunn (Super) a cast that also includes Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. AquamanWe’ve known for a while now that Warner Bros. has plans for an animated Aquaman feature as part of its DC Universe Animated Original Movies line, which of course was teased during the end credits of Justice League: War, and now thanks to Newsarama we’ve got some minor details on the feature.

According to the site, the movie will have “Aquaman” in the title somewhere, and will be set in the same New 52-inspired universe as Justice League: War and the subsequent Son of Batman. They go on to report that Sam Witwer (Being Human) will lend his voice to Orm, Aquaman’s brother, and that “the film will likely be something of a New 52 origin story for Aquaman, meaning sources tell us at the start of the film he won’t know much, if anything, about his connection to Atlantis, his place in their royal family, and his destiny to be their king.”

DC’s next animated feature Batman: Assault on Arkham is due out in August [watch the trailer here], so we should probably expect official news on the next round of animated DC movies during Comic-Con in July.
